The Context

Cellphones…they are present in so much of today’s world, from texting friends and family to maintaining our images on social networks such as Facebook and Instagram. Cellphones have begun to take precedence over the people in our lives and it’s becoming more and more common for technology to shadow us everywhere we go. In an effort to save social interaction and the truth of what makes us human from the rise of technology, we have decided to launch the project Cellphone Usage and Social Interaction. Using social media as an outlet for information collected from both online sources, surveys and interviews, as well as a cellphone usage challenge we will be launching school-wide, we are striving to bring awareness as to how much time people are spending using their devices, and more importantly, using their devices while in each other’s company. Is a world without social interaction on the rise? Or more importantly, has technology changed something fundamental about human nature and removed the need for social interaction entirely?ion entirely?
