In has become ingrained in our daily routine to pick up our phone the moment we wake up in the morning and set down our phone last thing before we fall asleep. Our phones remain a vital piece of our daily lives, and one we use even more that we imagine. But how much time do we really spend on our phones? Well, why don’t we find out? There are many apps available today that offer a variety of features such as app usage tracking as well as cellphone habit monitoring. Moment for iOS as well as QualityTime for Android are two examples of popular apps, and we strongly encourage everyone to download a tracking app of that type. But why should we care about our cellphone usage? First of all, in this technological society, cellphones represent an important part of our lives. In order to make the most out of our experiences, it is important to understand why our cellphones are so vital to us. Perhaps texting is the key feature on your phone, or perhaps it’s video calling. Then again, it could be the easy access to your favourite apps, such as Facebook and Instagram. Whatever the reasons may be, it is important to understand what makes our phone vital in our lives. Once we understand the importance of our phones in our lives, it is then possible to begin lowering our usage by filling our needs in some other way. If texting is what is important to you, it may be time to work on having more conversations in person. If video calling is most important, try hanging out and talking face-to-face. Though cellphones may seem to be the simplest and most ideal means to communicate, it is not the most effective, nor is it the most personal. Humans strive on social interaction, and though cellphones appear to supply just that, it is evident that they do not. So try something new for a change. Try monitoring your usage and see if you can come up with different ways to cut back on your usage and work on real forms of social interaction.
